What Will the Seminar Be Like?

Most of these details are based on previous seminar experiences. As details emerge, this information will reflect this year's seminar.

Every HOBY seminar throughout the country includes a variety of activities and events throughout the weekend. Each event is focused on a different subject or theme. At the Maryland Leadership Seminar you will experience:

Panel Sessions
During the seminar there will be approximately five panels on topics including entrepreneurship, diversity, education, volunteerism, and the media. Each session will have 3-5 speakers who are leaders and experts in the particular topic. They will only speak for 5 minutes each. The remaining time will be for YOU to ask questions, discuss the subject with your fellow Ambassadors and to for YOUR OWN opinions about the information presented.

Featured Speakers
The Maryland Leadership Seminar is proud to provide the opportunity for our Ambassadors to hear from truly inspirational and motivational speakers. During the weekend, typically in conjunction with a meal, these speakers will share their experiences with the Ambassadors and join us for part of the day in order to interact with Maryland's most outstanding high school sophomores.

Leadership Laboratories
A key component of the Maryland Leadership Seminar is practicing your leadership skills. Leadership Labs take place throughout the weekend and include a variety of hands-on, fun activities to tax you mind and work closely with your fellow Ambassadors.

Leadership for Service
For many years, the Maryland Leadership Seminar has been promoting community service as part of our program. Every year we attempt to do an off-site, hands-on service project in the local community.

Social Skills Promotion
This is our way of saying fun, fun, fun. All the hard work, learning, and participation in thoughtful discussions would not be complete without some activities dedicated solely to fun. Each seminar features an Ambassador Talent Showcase, a dance (with DJ), and social room filled with games, snacks, and great conversation.
