WELCOME TO THE HOBY MARYLAND WEBSITE!

For over 50 years Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) has been known as the country’s top youth leadership development organization. Founded in 1958 by veteran actor Hugh O’Brian, HOBY’s mission is to provide lifelong leadership development opportunities that empower individuals to achieve their highest potential. O’Brian set out to help young people make a difference and become positive catalysts for change — in the home, school, workplace, and community. Now, with more than 500,000 alumni leading the way, HOBY is respected worldwide for its youth leadership programs.

HOBY Maryland has graduated outstanding leaders since 1979. Our aim is to motivate and empower individuals to make a positive difference within our global society through understanding and action based on effective and compassionate leadership. We annually serve more than 200 high school sophomores from across the state at our Leadership Seminar. In addition, HOBY Maryland serves more students throughout the year at Community Leadership Workshops (CLeWs) hosted by alumni and held throughout Maryland.

2024 Maryland Leadership Seminar

June 6-9, 2024 | Towson University, Towson Maryland

The state seminar provides students with a forum to broaden their understanding of leadership potential and quest for self development. Guest speakers, panel discussions, and hands-on activities teach students about personal, group, and societal leadership. Our career lunch allows students to speak with professionals from a wide range of fields about education, careers, and entrepreneurship. The connection between leadership and volunteerism is reinforced through our group community service project. HOBY Ambassadors are challenged to return to their communities and perform 100 hours of community service within the next year.

HOBY Maryland Alumni

The mission of the HOBY Maryland Alumni Association is to promote continued educational and leadership opportunities through personal/professional development and hands-on, leadership skill-building activities.

Being part of HOBY’s alumni network offers ongoing opportunities for new connections, growth, and leadership development after HOBY’s leadership seminars. HOBY Ambassadors have the opportunity to:

  • Volunteer at HOBY programs around the world
  • Join a local Alumni Association
  • Organize or attend local service projects and reunions
  • Apply for the Academic All-Star Award to wear a HOBY cord at graduation
  • Join HOBY partner service organizations, like the Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity and the Junior Chamber International (JCI) during and after college
  • Apply for other opportunities through partnering organizations and universities
  • Attend one of HOBY’s international tours

Make a difference by volunteering!

Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization. They make a significant impact on the experience, and lives, of our ambassadors. While helping to facilitate, our volunteers have the opportunity to participate in the HOBY experience while reevaluating their own life goals with the ambassadors around them.
